Belt Lipectomy / Circumferential Body Lift
Belt lipectomy (also called circumferential body lift) is surgery to remove excess skin and tissue from the abdomen, waist, hips and lower back. It is often considered following large weight loss, bariatric surgery or major changes in the body.
This procedure treats the body in a circular manner unlike a standard tummy tuck. The goal is to improve the front, sides and back all together so that the lower torso appears smoother, firmer and more proportionate.
A Procedure Designed For Post-Weight-Loss Changes
When you lose a lot of weight, the skin may not tighten up enough around the new body shape. This can leave hanging skin, folds, irritation and asymmetrical contours of the abdomen, waist and lower back.
Dr. Saad Almosa considers the excess skin, the quality of the tissue, prior scars and the body proportions before planning surgery. The aim is to excise the loose tissue and to develop a balanced contour from all directions.

Reshaping The Body From Front To Back
A circumferential body lift is different because it does not deal with only one surface. It follows the body along the waist line enabling the surgeon to remove the excess tissue in a more complete and connected manner.
This approach can help to improve the contour of the abdomen, waist, lower back and upper buttock together. Dr. Saad Almosa plans the tissue removal carefully so that the final shape looks smoother and not pulled or uneven.
Incision Placement And Scar Considerations
The cut is generally in a belt-like pattern around the lower body. Its position is planned so that good skin removal can be done, while attempting to keep the scar as inconspicuous as possible under suitable clothing.
There will be scarring with this surgery. Scars generally heal and fade over time but their final appearance is determined by the healing response, skin type, tension across the wound and post operative care.
Recovery After A Larger Body Contouring Procedure
Recovery is more complicated than with smaller contouring procedures, as a large area is treated. In the early healing period swelling, tightness, bruising and limited movement are expected.
Most patients require home support, careful wound management and time off from strenuous activity. You may be advised to wear compression garments to give support to the tissues as your new contour takes shape.
